Any suggestions welcome.

It doesn't seem to matter how tight it goes on he can remove it. Have also tried doing it with the head collar but he removes them both.

Watching him do it - he has a good roll and then hooks any part he can over his hoof and pulls it off that way.

Our gelding managed to break two Roma/Shires muzzles in quich sucession by hooking the bottom of the muzzle on a fence post and pulling his head up until the straps broke. I gave in and bought a GreenGuard muzzle with the GreenGuard headcollar and (whilst this is tempting fate) he has not managed to get it off.

His field companion though is getting adept at removing her Shires type muzzle by rolling and getting the headcollar to slip over her ears - she is lami prone so that is not good news. I have just tightened her muzzle - especially the strap under her jaw and put a head collar on top fairly tight - so far she has failed to remove them recently - there is a bit of a balance though between making sure she cannot remove it and making the muzzle too tight. I have to say both ponies run to me in the morning to be let into their stables for hay and a lie down without their muzzles!

Not sure that helps but I suspect there are lots of serial muzzle removers out there and there must be a way of stopping them! :) .......especially as we are only muzzling them for their own good..........

I've found interlocking the muzzle with the headcollar and making them as small as physically possible without causing discomfort works. Also wrap normal medical bandages around the buckles, clips and velcro. However, that does make it less likely to break if they get caught in the field. Only you will know how sensible your horse is and whether it is likely to get caught.

Besides the above or trying a greenguard (I have tried them and personally didn't like them but each to their own opinion) I'm not sure there's much else you can do, short of super glue! LoL! :)

Thanks for the replies. It is actually for my friends horse but we still have the problem all the same.

Short of cutting off his airways and it being very uncomfortable I don't think she can do it up any tighter. He is so clever how he goes about his escape!

I will pass on the tip about the mane.

Agree FF- so frustrating when we are only doing for their own good

Think your onto something there DannyBoy with the super glue but he would probably still find a way round it. Lol.
