Help, panicking

I've had my horse 6 weeks and was told he had an allergy to barley, I didn't buy directly off the owner and the person that sold him to me hadn't put this to the test. I have accidentally just fed him a scoop of leisure mix which contains barley and am now panicking! I left him at 7.30pm happily munching on his hay. Anyone have any experience of this and can hopefully put my mind at rest?

That's the problem no-one knows, so I'm not sure what worse case scenario is, I also don't know how long it takes to react. In fact I'm completely in the bloody dark!

I don't have it, but I can get it so maybe that's what I'll do.
Trouble is I doubt if I'll be able to get it tonight. Shall I go down later and check on him? Yard shuts at 10pm but I can get in.

a lot of horses dont actually like barley, and the pony at our yard refuses to eat it! it dosent really agree with it i think.

you could feed your own mix though, ie. for a 16.2 horse one scoop rolled oats and half a scoop flaked maize? my horse gets that plus half scoop of sugar beet and a broad spec. vit supplement!

can you ring YO and ask if they could check up on horse?

Have a quick trip down there if you are that worried, as you will never sleep otherwise

You may find he is fine and its only lots of barley that maybe makes him fizzy rather than ill???

He'd polished off the lot before I left, he's on calm and condition normally which he's great on, this was a complete accident. Apparently YO checks on them at 10pm so she'll ring if there's anything wrong. Thanks

You're right I won't sleep! Like you say he may just be a bit fizzier, I'd rather that than anything else. I can't imagine there's a huge amount in one scoop anyway.

My horse has feed allergies and gets itchy. Im sure he will be fine as there will be minimal barley in a scoop of feed. You may find he is a bit lumpy in the morning. I would ring YO though to put your mind at rest.
