I know this has probably been answered before but I've never dealt with this before so could use some advise on the best treatment for it. Noticed the pony had a worm and yellowish gunk on his bottom today, a little bit of tail rubbing by the looks of it but barely noticeable. Anyway I've cleaned it all up and got the hanging worm as well (yuk) his bum looked a little sore so put some cream on it after. Now I need to know what is the best way for me to treat it as I know this can be difficult to clear up. Thanks.

The trouble with pinworm is as they live at the end of the digestive system the wormer is often inactive by that area and you have to get the vet to do an enema. Chat to your vet.

I tried for 2 years to get rid of them. Tried vet made products and loads of wormers!

Only one i Didnt try was 5 day Panacur.
OMG..... What came out of my horse was disgusting!!!

Seems its the only one that reaches the hind gut where they live.

Good luck!

I have heard 5 day panacur as well. Luckily my horse didn't have it as she resents anyone getting up close and personal with her rear end, but it sorted out the ones on our yard that did.

I did a double dose of Strongid P followed by Panacur 5 day about a month later

Everything seems to be fine now

Everything including tree trunks in the field was disinfected though!

Thanks for the advice, looks like I've got a job on my hands now cleaning everything! So looks like 5day panacur and strongid p are the best to use so will phone vet later to get all the info. Would the rest of the horses in the field need to be done or just if they are showing signs of it as well?

we did five day panacur followed by one month of wiping round the bum and dock with invermectin lotion and scrubbed stables and Favorite fence posts and gate for rubbing worked a treat.

Just had two different pieces of advice, I tried to get through to vet this morning but he was busy so got in touch with west gate labs who do my worm counts, they said to firstly try the five day panacur but then later on the vets phoned back and said they recommend I use equimax which I was surprised at, didn't think until after but I've already wormed with equitable in may and I know that equimax is also for tapeworm, looks like I'd better get back onto the vets to check this will be ok
