Help please, horse won't eat feed with antibiotics in

I'm not sure if you can with this - but my vet said to mix with a small bit of water and syringe it into my boy.

Luckily, after a few days of wrestling with him over that he started to eat it in his feed

You can pour some apple juice over the feed & that will hopefully disguise their presence & it'll be eaten. Failing that mix the antibiotice with a little water or apple juice & syringe it into your horse's mouth like a wormer.

Thank you both! Will try apple juice now as it is already mixed then if not ring vet and see if I can do the syringe thingy.
Trouble is the antibiotics come in such big sachets, I managed to get her bute down her before cos it's such a diddy bit.

Agreed syringing is really the only answer .Use a large syringe I generally cut the end off to make the hole larger ,Mix to a paste and then syringe like a wormer .
Often you may have to use 2 syringes so as they are not too full as it is difficult to get the angle on a really full syringe to stop them spiting it out.
I mix up the syringes the night before then give them a good shake in the morning.
If they are ok to worm then this is the easiest way.
You can buy a 'thing' to put on a bridle to put the syringe into .

sell them around £12

mix with water into a syringeable paste and give it her like its a wormer.

(never had this trouble with Ted.. we never got onto Oral anti-b's was always injected)

Try a Marmite sandwich- it's the only way I can get anything down my boy. Spread the marmite quite thickly on two pieces of bread, sprinkle the antibiotic on top and then rub the two pices of bread together to get all the powder coated in the marmite. I've never known it fail yet and everything else has failed with my boy.

Syringing is the best way, my old girl can spot anti Biotics at ten paces!! She has had a 4 week course of them and finished them on Tue this week, i tried...
Peppermint Cordial
Garlic
Mollasses
Crushed Mint
Apple Juice
She knows every trick in the book! infact i think she wrote it lol

My pony was the fussiest, most picky git in the world, and my vet suggested mixing antibiotics in with ready break and a little bit of sugar beet juice. It worked every time, and he ate it all. May be worth a try.

Ditto the syringe method, and the apple juice. Failing that a good slurp of molasses normally does the trick!!

I've even been known to mix it in molasses in a syringe (rather sticky) or apple juice and syringe it in!!

Wow, thanks everyone. Have given her it with apple juice and chopped up apple and she's eaten about half. I really think she is just being awkward as she had antiB after her tooth extraction a couple of months ago and was fine.
I think I will syringe it in tonight so I can be sure she's got it all. Don't think the sandwich would work tho, there's half a ton of bloody powder!
