Hi I have a rising 4yo Trakehner filly. She currently stands at 15.1hh the string test (ergot to elbow) says she will make 16.1/2hh. Do you think this is realistic? I didn't feed her up as a baby to avoid growth problems. Mum was elderly when she had her, but stood at 16.3/17hh. Her sire was 16.2hh but grew until he was 7. Help please???!!!

I bought my trakehner rising 4 and she was slightly over 16hh. She is now full up 17hh, so yes, every chance yours could grow that big.

Impossible to say.
You will find many examples of horses that have grown a hand between the age of 4 and 7.
You will also find many examples of horses that haven't made expected height!

In your shoes I would expect another 2 inches. But not be surprised if you get more.
Not much help really!! Sorry!

I backed mine a month before she was officially 4 and then took it slow. She is 8 now and 'behind' in her training for various reasons but I'm starting to pick up the pace this year.

My WB is 4 today and stands at 16.1 ish. He was backed extremely lightly in the autumn and does light lunging and long reining as if he does nothing then he is a complete tit. Unfortunately he was not (and still is not) developed enough to start full training but the next year will be spent watching and waiting for him to fill out. Problem is with these big horses is getting that balance between them being physically ready and avoiding that time when they tend to be harder to break as they are that bit older. Mine at the moment has realsied his strength and if I try to lead him any significant way in just a headcollar he knows i stand no chance of stopping him going where he wants! He is expected to put on at least another hand in height

Happy birthday to your horse! I'm tempted to send her away to be broken and then turn her away for a year, then hopefully she will look more done in 2014? Trying to figure out what's best for her? She's very sweet but seems to want an education! It's hard to describe

I bought my trakehner as a 2yr old and he was around 15.2, dam was 16hh, sire 16.1 I think. He stopped growing in height at about 6 and is now 16.2, but he did fill keep filling out until about 7 yrs old. Enjoy, - fabulous breed! What's her lines?
