help please in understand UK BSJA amateur competitions

Hi there,
I guess this is a real numpty question for many of you, but I'm trying to understand the BritishShowjumping competition structure for Amateur (1.0m and 1.10cm) for my daughter who is coming to the UK starting September. I have the 2012 BJ rules in front of me and have read all their website FAQs, but still none the wiser. Is there a 1st and 2nd round, and then a final at the same venue on the same day. I.e you get a clear (top 6?) in the 1st round and then if you come in the top 6 of the 2nd round you do the final. How does the entry for this work, you enter only for the 1st round ? and then if you go clear enter for the 2nd round ? What happen's after you've done finals? is there some form of national event ?

Sorry if this sounds really dumbass, but when I looked at the lower classes of novice -> foxhunter it seemed that you had to do so many 1st rounds over a certain before you could enter 2nd rounds.

British Novice to foxhunter you have to get 4 double clears to qualify for second rounds which are held at a separate comp.

Amateur I think is first 6 qualify then at a different venue it's second rounds and another venue a final if you qualify.

Someone correct me if I am wrong!

this is correct as far as i know as well :)
 
Yep amateurs are open to any grade of horse throughout the heights. You have to come in the top 6 to qualify for a second round, of which there a about 10 dotted around the country, and you have to come in the top 12 to qualify for the finals held at Aintree in October time...which is apparently an amazing show! You can do as many 2nd rounds as you want once you've qualified for them, but only at the height you qualify for. :)

So as I understand it you only have to do one 1st round clear (and be in the top 6) to be able to enter any number of subsequent 2nd rounds.

I.e unlike Novice to Foxhunter where you have to do 4 double clears before you can do a 2nd round.

Is there a limit (horse or rider) to the number of rounds you can do at any one venue in the same class or do people go to a venue and just do a single round.

Most venues regularly run for example a 90cm Amateur 1st round class as part of their schedule. They will only run one amateur class for this height per show day. Your daughter could enter the same class twice in one day but her second entry would have to be Hon Concours (HC) so therefore non competitive, only the score from her first entry would count.

If for example you attend your local venue on say a Sunday and your daughter enters the 90cm amateur class and is placed in the top six, she is eligible for (on receiving a confirmation letter from BSJA) the 90cm Amateur 2nd rounds (run september to october). The competitors who qualify for 2nd round shows by being placed in the top six must jump a clear round and take part in the jump off. There is nothing to prevent you from returning to the same venue at their next show on say Thursday and again entering the 90 Amateur class.

Any of the amateur levels you may continue to compete at that height for as long as you wish.
