help please lame horse *DELETED* *DELETED*

normally when he nods - thats the leg thats lame. But if he was really sore, sometimes it could look like the other leg is bad too as it has to compensate so much for the actual lame leg. Get your farrier to check he hasn't got an abscess now as well (which can sometimes show by heat and swelling travelling up the leg)

It could be any number of things, but if the heat is mainly in the hoof, your farrier might be able to give you an idea tomorrow. I'm assuming you checked the foot for foreign objects?

If you bute him you will make it even more difficult to tell which is the lame leg. Why have you not called the vet out if you are sufficiently inexperienced to be able to see which leg he's lame on, even worse why are YOU deciding to put him on bute for a week.

Get the vet.

for ur info jemima me and my yard owner have said to put him on box rest for a week and hes on bute every other day anyway from whats happened in the past , i was only asking how do u tell 100% which is the lame leg becoz i think its 1 leg and some else thinks its the other 1 , but sometimes its hard to see which is the sore leg , and i rang the vet and she said there no point in her coming out unless i want her to becos she said she would do the same as me bandage him up leg the farrier see to him , put him of box rest for a week wit bute and see how it goes , i just wanted to see wot u lot thought about the heat in hes hoof that all so jemima just DO ONE ite

I didnt bute Beau when his got this time foot abccess as it causes a lot of other problems. Hope farrier finds out whats wrong. Hot foot is a sign of a abccess brewing well thats what his foot shows up as and I didnt call vet just got farrier out that night as I knew what it was and just poulitce it and it's coming out now. He was hopping lame 3 legs for two days once it startd to come out he sound now just waiting for it to stop draining of yuky pus.

I'm afraid that if you can see him limping that is a pretty good indication of the leg he's lame on. I agree with jemima too - a week on box rest with bute is not a remedy you should jump to without a vet. Is it worth it for the sake of a call out - peace of mind over a week of worry?

Please let us know how you get on

i can't read your original post, cos it's deleted, but if he's limping, it sounds like he's fairly lame, so there is a distinct possibility he'll need a vet out. i wouldn't bute him either until he's seen a vet/farrier, just in case the bute masks the lameness.

good luck! i hope he's ok. let us know how you get on. x

Hmm, they don't noddown when the lame leg hits the floor, the head comes up as the the lame leg hits the floor. This is a common misunderstanding.
