Help please - loose galloping Exmoor Ponies at Blackcap, Nr Plumpton, Lewes, Sussex

Does anyone know who these Exmoor ponies belong to as I’ve been advised that horse riders are being chased by them and causing huge problems. Am not sure if they are on the bridleway (field) or perhaps have got out of another field. Could be a recipe of disaster! Anyone know anything? Much appreciated – thanks.

I did do a search on the internet and had already found the article which you also found, but I thought the ponies are over towards Eastbourne.
I'm wondering if they have moved a few Exmoors from the herd to Blackcap or they have excaped!

I think I'll have to email ESCC RoW or SDJC and see if they know anything.
 
Last year I tried to complain about the ones between Firle and Alciston, nr Bopeep. They are in a field with a bridlepath going through it leading from the bottom of the Downs. We couldn't track down who they belonged to and now avoid that BP totally. Thanks for posting the article as that helps us out!!!!

Is there a notice on the enclosure fence that surrounds them - it may say what project they are part of?

Rubyredshoes, who did you complain to? What response did you get? Does your local bridleway group know of this problem?

It sounds like they are causing problems like the bullocks on Telcombe Tye!

Nop - the rider (my friend) reported the Exmoors at Blackcap to me today and she didn't mention any sign. Apparently her friend rode across Blackcap last Sunday and was chased by the ponies luckily her ex-racehorse left them behind!
 
We emailed several people and made several calls but no-one came back to us. We tried County Council, District Council, English Nature etc etc. Will ask our local bridleway action group which has recently been set up. I'm not even sure if they are still there but it's a good excuse to go for a ride and check them out! I needed something to do this week!
 
I'd be very tempted to suggest (unless there is a stallion running with them) that you try chasing them away. The only times I know of it being a bit of a problem here in the forest is when a macho gelding is turned out who might chase horses/people. It takes some guts to do it I know, but it might be worth a try. The NF ponies generally take no notice of riders unless its the round up, when they just seem to know that the riders are there to catch them and they go off and hide whereever they can.
