Hello,

Was wondering if anyone could help me, mare normal perky self, had been weeing last night as wet patches in stable, been out all day, & now in at night, i noticed that while she was in she was straining to go for a wee like her bum was tensing up, you could see it. Also the little bit of wee she did was a greeny snotty colour, not smelly either...she is on anti-biotics from cutting her head open on sunday....

Please someone help....or do you think i need to get the vet out tomorrow? Shes her normal self...eating her hay etc.

Thanks

If she hasn't pee'd by the morning its definitely a vet job!! Is she dehydrated? any chance she could have UTI? (fairly rare in horses?)

Hi, thanks, my mums heading up to the yard now...shes been in since 6, so fingers crossed she has been for a pee or the vet is coming out, i dont want her to be in pain all night....i wouldnt of thought she wil be dehydrated..cuz shes tensing up like trying to go but cant & when she did it was a little bit & green.

Whats UTI?

UTI - is urinary tract infection. green doesn't sound good....
If its infection would also be smelly - more smelly than usual...
I'm presuming horses can get thrush from antibiotics as Humans can, but I'm not totally sure.... which could lead to Uti... my background's in human health not horsey health, so might be a total liar, :o but worth thinking about :)

Call vet. I'd ring to discuss tonight and they will decide how quickly she needs seeing. Cystitis possible and maybe likely....sore and painful for her so get advice.

Hope she's ok

Hi guys, mums just been up there, there are wet patches in her stable so she has wee'd, un-horsey mum though so had to explain what i meant by wet patches etc. My friends keeping an close eye out tomorrow & checking her stable int he morning...if she shows any tensing up signs tomorrow, vet will deffo be going out!

Thanks again

My old mare had bladder stones and it presented the some of the signs as you described. It's definitely worth calling the vet to determine what it is. Good luck!

Get the vet.My old hunting pony had kidney trouble, which used to manifest itself when he was very tired after hunting so that he couldn't pee. I used to be leading him about in the dark for ages, whistling to him! Had your horse done any hard work in the period peading up to the problem?

Hi, no, shes had since last sunday off from hiting her head in her stable so cant ride intil the cut heals up. Shes been out all day....but someone on the yard said her horse does this when shes in season & she has been squirting at geldings today & galloping around her field!
