has been limping every second night.
i take him to the yard with me at 6 pm and he runs about until about 10 pm , he gets home and lies down and when he gets up he is limping on his left front leg .
this seems to happen every second night.
anybody have any ideas what is causing this the first couple of times this happend he yelped when i touched one of his pads but tonight yelped when i touched his shoulder .
there are no cuts marks swelling etc

It could be a number of things really, a joint problem, an injury that has gone unoticed, and is aggravated by exercise and is painfull upon rest, or a foreign body in the pad, but they do normally lick or gnaw at the pad.......I would get him checked by the vet asap, they may tell u to ease of he exercise for a while so they can investigate further.

does he 'walk into' the lameness after rising so that it improves when he has been up for a bit? If so could be anything from OCD (though unlikely in the breed and age) to a pulled muscle. Hope whatever it is your dog is fine soon. I would keep on lead rest until the vet has seen him!

My experience of intermittant foreleg lameness led to Elbow Dysplasia

The lameness in my dog looked very much like it was the shoulder, his lameness was on & off from the age of about 8 months. Finally had ED diagnosed at 18 months!!

Hopefully yours won't be anything horrid like, he could have just pulled a muscle, ligament or anything like that.

Have you ice, snow, water - all of the above? I just wonder if he has skidded, tripped or pulled something on the hard ground - my friends lurcher has done the samething sometime during the last week. Hopefully its nothing major and a few quiet days at home instead of hooning around might mend him.

my lurcher has done the same, after repeatedly being told to take it easy on the ground at mo!

adgetom, our jack russell has a finished shoulder after years of chasing and having fun with our sheepdog. the vet offered an operation(not guaranteed to work)for about£1000, or amputate, neither was an option, so he hobbles about with bit of a limp, and is as active as ever, and as daft! there is no pain with him but the shoulder muscle is gone.(very visible)could your dog have the same prob. or similar?
