Help please - my horse won't eat his medicine!

William has to eat a small measuring scoop of Equitop Myoplast , basically a seaweed preparation, described by the manufacturers as "palatable"! He hates the smell of it and however I try to disguise it, he flatly refuses to co-operate.

Tried adding apple juice, sugar beet, peppermint, black treacle etc etc. Making sandwiches of it, stuffing it in holes in carrots - even resorted to a dosing syringe but he spat it out over me! At £70 a tub it is a little annoying to say the least!

Eagerly awaiting your advice and tips please!!
 
Make up feed and leave to soak overnight before feeding. I use water with drop molasses in to wet feed, it swells overnight and masks the taste, I can get away with just pony nuts and small handful chaff this way. Before soaking I had tried garlic, Mint, Apple juice etc with no joy.
 
Have you tried putting it in a small amount of soaked sugar beet, or topping it with marmite, or birds eye custard powder? I have a very clever / fussy Cushings pony, who has been testing my skills for eight years.
I also keep equipalazone in the fridge for 24 hours ( on vets advice ) before putting in feed.
 
Dissolve it in cordial and stick it in a syringe and in the mouth it goes!

My horse did eat it but it failed to do the expensive claims it said on the tin!

Wasted my money but hey ho!
 
You can get bits made for the job of administering meds, with holes in and a port on the side for syringing - can't remember the name of them now, but they look great, considering getting one for Boyo as he is a nightmare to worm!
 
Providing it's not a huge volume and is dry I put it sandwiches using wholemeal bread, sprinkling the powder on golden syrup and garnishing it with sliced apple; even my princess of fussiness falls for that - "Oh, Mummy, canapés, how super"
 
If he can have a bit of molasses the Dengi Hi-Fi original with apple will cover most smells and tastes. Problem is you can only get 20kg bags if you're after a short term fix.
 
I know you said you tried a dosing syringe, but did you try mixing the meds in some babyfood before squirting it in? My shettie is notorious for dodging meds in his feed, but by mixing it in with apple or carrot babyfood then putting it in a syringe he'll take it.
