Hello everybody,

I'm new here and I'm hoping I could get some advice.
My pony keeps getting hoof infections. I've had the vet out quite a few times which has been very expensive.
Now this week she has got another hoof infection. The farrier came out today to look at her foot and pointed out a few things the vet did not.
He said she looked like she has tearing of the white line from laminutus in all her hooves. Which Is now causing dirt to get up causing hoof infections. It looks like this latest hoof infection in her front hoof is working it's way up her hoof and would probably burst out her coronet band 😢
Has anybody had anything similar?

Hope any body can help or any advice please 😢

Are you referring to abscess's? Would always go to the farrier not the vet for them. If its high up then its not so easy but box rest and poultice. My farrier will usually try and dig them out and we used to spray purple spray in them but apparently thats not the done thing anymore..

Try not to panic. It sounds like your horse may have diet and possibly metabolic issues.
Stretched white line often means excess sugars in the diet including feeds, grazing and hay. Also mineral deficiencies or imbalances can affect white line (lamina) connection causing stretch.

Perhaps contact http://forageplus.co.uk/ for advice. It may well not be cheap but you need to look at a laminitic friendly diet and good levels of minerals. Check out some of the abscess stories on the link.

agree with this, if your farrier suspects laminitis I would consider changing vet as your current one missed this fact.

This may help... to prevent thrush this year, when Shy comes in at night, I pick out his hooves, and then lightly spray them with neat tea tree oil mixed with eucalyptus oil. His feet have actually never been better. This should also help prevent a build up of bacteria for your horse.

Contraversially for a barefoot horse, I swear by Topspec Light , and their Calm condition cubes.
