My little Mojo doesnt like going for walks!

She runs away when I go to put her harness on, and then makes me drag her down the road when we finally set off. Roly enjoys his walks and I was hoping this would rub off on Mojo, but no such luck.
I put a coat on her to keep her warm, so I dont think its that she's cold (as she's very little)
I feel so bad dragging her, should I perservere or leave her in the house while I walk my other pup. I feel if I drag her along she'll end up associating walks with displeasure rather than being fun!

Poor Mojo

Any help greatly appreciated, thanks!

What ever you do don't give up or you'll never get her out. I'd perservere by coaxing her along with something she likes and rewarding her every few steps. Don't be tempted to pick her up and carry her either!! Do something with her that she enjoys once you get on your walk.

Do you only lead walk or do they get free running too?

try walking them seperately, it may help with the problem
because if they are anything like my 2 dogs then they fight like hell on the door step

just an idea

I had the same problem when Morse was little. I used cooked chicken to coax him along and it soon did the trick. Now it's him that walks me!
Good Luck

Can you go by car to the park or countryside?

My little terrier doesn't like being walked on the pavement, he would behave exactly the same as your dog, but take him to the park or the country and he gets madly excited! Walkies should be fun, with lots to sniff. Hope you find the answer.

I think it's fairly common for young pups to hate being walked on a lead. When she refuses to budge, let your lead go slack and look straight ahead, completely ignoring her. When she does move, give her lots of praise and keep up the momentum.

As others have said, does it make a difference as to where you're walking? Have you tried bringing along a favourite toy for encouragement?

As she runs away from the harness, could that be the problem? Does it fit well, and is she comfortable in it?
Maybe putting it on before you play with her indoors, and before feed times, so she enjoys wearing it, then take her into the garden to learn how to walk on a lead properly. It all takes time and patience and masses of praise when she is good!

Poppy wasn't v keen when she was a v little pup, esp first thing in the morning. She seemed to grow out of it though within the first month or so.
I walked her on an extendable lead, and gave her lots of praise when she caught up or ran in front of me.

She's gotten used to wearing her collar and harness in the house, odd thing is, she doesnt like going out in the garden either in the morning, she tolerates it, but she's very - take it or leave it.
She was a little better when we walked her on Sunday in a local field, but still a bit worried about the whole affair! She was taken out every morning with my other puppy since we had her (in my jacket of course) and seemed to enjoy it, but now she has to walk she's a bit less keen!

Persevere. Keep it all jolly and light and ignore the bad behaviour. The pup is frightened with all the new things, but give it a couple of weeks and she will be loving it. Keep the walks short to begin with and make sure to introduce lots of experiences to her now as a pup. Dont lose your temper or get upset. Put on your happy face (do a barbara woodhouse on her -showing my age now). As mentioned, do not look back and get concerned as she will pick up on it. Good luck

Could it be the coat she doesn't like. When my dog was younger she wouldn't walk with her coat on. She was very stubborn like your dog but I kept at it and now we never have that problem.

She has been out with/without her coat so I dont think its that. But I will keep on with it because I want her to enjoy herself and not be scared to go out!
