New horse seemed to be going lovely - had been building up hacking round area.

Then, i wasnt well yesterday so my friend took him in the field used for riding at our yard yesterday (bearing in mind its 25 acres!). He was pulling a bit to trot and canter but seemed ok.

Then all of a sudden she did a few trotting poles of which he started cantering through and then just took off into this very messy gallop. She lost her stirrups and almost came off as he started doiing mad turns etc, which seems very out of character to all i seen before and after buying him a month ago, losing shoes and all.

Shes very brave and made him finish on a good note by trotting through them afterwards (she was well and truely ready that time.)

Hes passed 5 star vetting, and im getting his teeth and back checked tomorrow, brand new saddle fiitted 3 weeks ago - beyond this, i know i wont be able to cope if it becomes a regular occurence.

My instructor is going to walk, trot and canter in the said field tonight calmly to see what hes like on his own - as he was with horses yesterday. I am also going to try different bits with her guidance 2 see if this helps aswell as he is only in a fulmer snaffle.

Its such a nightmare, as gallop was just crazy - could cope with a flat gallop like my old TB, but this cobs got a major bounce - aaarggghhhh!

Sorry 4 how long post is!!

Big open space = exciting!

I expect his teeth etc. are fine - and he's just feel a little bit 'well'.

Not sure what your question is...?

Well just wanting some reassurance really - as long as hes just not mental and there was a reason for it i SHOULD be OK!!!!!!!!!!!

Horses are the bain of my life!!!!!

I agree with the other posters, sounds like a classic case of bolting off for a bit of a laugh (though not if you're the rider!). Personally I'd keep out of wide open spaces until you know him a bit better.

I would agree with above...just excitement...the chance to have a fling in open space with exciting poles was too much of an opportunity to miss!!!
