got to my horses today after farm owner borught them in and my mare has a HUGE lump on her chest, is really hot, not herself at all and really just urghhhh like down. normally comes to door etc to see me but stood in corner of stable, and not eating hay (is a piggy so normally scoffing it)
lump is between front legs but more to the left hand side, hard in places and squidgy in other places.

any help would really be appreciated, vet or wait til morning?

I too would get the vet now. It could be she got something stuck in there causing a very nasty infection, or a nasty kick

If she isn't eating and is in obvious discomfort vet now. Sounds like some sort of abscess or infected haematoma and may need draining or something.

had vet. shes had 5 injections :O and i now have more drugs than a pharmacy. shes on anti inflammatries and anti biotics. and had a local anaesthetic.

the lump he says is from an injury and if no better by monday shes getting scanned or having needles poked in to let whats in it drain out.

I've seen this before. The combination of the anti-inflamatories and antibiotics can really help - it started to come down a couple of days later and was OK wihin the week.

The description you have given sounds just like the bite I got on my buttock a few weeks ago. I had loads of swelling that was full of fluid and squelchy in bits and then rock hard in others - the pain was horrible and even now after few weeks is still very sore and very swollen - the skin wasn't broken! I wonder if she has had a really nasty bite from another horse, the one I got was aimed at one of the ponies but I got in the way!
