Dilemma here again, sorry guys.

I found a horse for sale - it's perfect for what I want. I have been looking for a couple of 2007 seller on's but haven't been able to find anything of the right breeding or anywhere near the figure I have chosen to not exceed.......except this one.

This one is the right age, right height, a great (selling) colour, registered with a pretty nice pedigree and the biggest plus is that the seller has it advertised for about a quarter of it's worth.........however it is located 3 hours drive away.

. And I haven't seen it, only in photos.

I have been emailing the owner for a couple of weeks now and today she called me to see if I wanted to come up and see/buy him. I promised to call her back this evening and this evening is now here and I still cannot make up my mind whether to go or not.

Any thoughts?

PMSL!!! You are still so VERY English!!!

I know you are in Canada, but the following saying still goes for Canadians
"The difference between an American and an Englishman, is 100 miles and a 100 years"

Go see it woman - you know you want to!!!

Ye but he has long pasterns..........LOL!! sorry but that sounds funny doesn't it!

He's only 2 though - how bad could anything be, is what I keep saying to myself......and then I remember some of the creatures I have looked at in the past and it worries me to go soooo far to be totally disappointed.

I know.

I like them to be 15 mins away......rarely happens though. I doubt I will ever be a fully fledged North American, LOL!!

I do want to go and see it but it means taking the trailer all the way through Toronto and out the other side....oh why aren't they just round the corner.

The thing is, I know that as a seller-on hardly anyone around here would even know what long pasterns are, let alone notice them.....but I would know and I like to be totally honest with my purchasers.

Is he nice looking? No he is incredibly skinny and very underweight - he looks like a panda with big, dark fluffy eyes and he just isn't my normal kind of horse BUT he is a great colour for selling on, LOL!!

Three hours is nothing!! Will FLY by! I think that you will regret it if you dont go, your just going to have to have a look at him!

You are right though about photos- they can turn out to be soo dissapointing! My Owen is just stunning in the flesh, but always looks dreadfull in photographs! And then Forrest looked to die for in his photographs, but was actually looking very disapointing in real life! It is amazing how the camera can lie!

But still, think you have to give this one a shot! At least you wont be thinking....'If only' in a couple of weeks time.....

I know. I just worry that I am clutching at straws because I can't find exactly what I am looking for.

There is another horse up there, about 20 mins away and it is a buckskin. Buckskins are terrific seller-ons. This one has an even better pedigree but to me it looks like a donkey!

Okay, but I warn you ....... it might not be pretty!

It is skinny, has long pasterns, has something weird about it's hocks and I think is actually, dare I say it, ugly? But it is a TRUE red dun.

See what you mean re the pasterns, can't really tell about the hocks from the photo.
Stunning colour!!! I have a red bay colt from a dark bay mare & a dun sire.
I'd still go & look - he looks a sweetie as far as can be told from pictures.

ROFPMSLMAO!!!!!

You see exactly what I mean don't you!!

The only thing that keeps me interested is knowing how nicely some of the dreadful creatures I have bought in the past have turned out.

Well I think he's worth a 'coat of looking' as they say in the north of England!
None of them are perfect, and I'm sure you've seen horses with far worse conformation than this one lead very active lives with no problems at all - I know I have.
Take your transport with you then it's only the one three hour trip if you do decide to take a chance.!

PMSL It is a lottery! It does have an exceptionally genuine and kind expression with those large wide set eyes and big ears. I assume it is a yearling so could well look more balanced out in a year or two.
It depends on what kind of buyers you have in mind to sell him on to- somebody after a genuine, easy and ordinary ride, which is what this chappy could be, or somebody who wants all of that, plus a good looking horse that gives a good feel as well (which I doubt that this horse could give)?

Thing is, that's not my market. I go for flashy looking horses who photograph well and who have a good attitude but they must have presence.....this one just doesn't do it for me.

But it is really well bred and it is exceptionally cheap.

Oh dear I don't know, I keep looking at him and every time I look, I see something else that I wonder about. He is ugly, bless him.

They're old photos though! I don't think he's any uglier than any other 'under-produced' 2yr old! He'll probably be a different animal next spring.

I personally would forget him.
He is quite ugly atm and doesn't give an overall good impression - this may change as he matures but good breeding doesn't guarentee that. You know your market and unless this horse does improve as it matures, it sounds like he won't appeal to them and he won't fetch a premiumum price which is probably why he is cheap now.
you sound quite doubtful about him so I would say forget him!
