I am a very indecisive person and am in a bit of a conundrum atm :/ Basically i dont no what to do job wise, i never really have tbh but at 19 i really need to make a decision which i suck at. I had an interview as a WP on a event yard, i feel its a really good opertunity to learn how top class horses are trained and cared for etc and get to bring my own and have training and they have all the facilities you name it they have it. But tbh i think the only reason i want to do is it because of my horse and i really dont think i would do it my whole life!! I always wanted to be a vet though  i done work experience at a vets and really really injoyed it and have been thinking alot about vet nurseing but i dont no how to get into it as apparently you have to already be working as a vet nurse before applying for the course!!! So the groom idea would be an easier option but i really dont no, I really want the best for my horse but in the long run being a groom i dont think i would even be able to afford a car ... Awww Man can someone out there please give me a kick in the shin and also if you dont mind make my decision so i dont :D

sorry i rambled abit :o

Hm.

Fully research being a vet nurse.

I used to be a groom, many, many years ago :D. Now I'm a business consultant and have been for years.

Life is what you make of it, what you take from all you do and work to make of positive benefit for you. You might learn a lot at an event yard that would stand you in good stead for the future.

Atm im in two minds about it, one minute i wana go then the next minute i dont lol hence the undecisiveness :D I do have a natioal diploma in art and design but i dont like that caper anymore  And another reason for going would be to get away from the tourcherous RS i work at it would actually put anyone off working with horses for life, the only reason i have done it so long was to pay for my horse!! Ughhh ...

PS how did all you veterinary nurses get into it?? I am confused.com :p

MrsM were is that famous hot chocolate??? :p lol

If you want to become a VN then start by contacting all the local surgeries in your area, expressing interest and enclose a CV, then as and when a vacancy for a trainee VN arises they will see that you are proactive, in the meantime gain as much experience in the area, volunteer or attend anything animal based, once you are taken on as a trainee VN, if you have the right GCSE's you can go straight onto year 1 (as and when the surgery wants to put you on it!) which is day release at college or a training facility, if you don't have the correct GCSE's all is not lost you will just need to do a year extra and get your pre VN.

Having said all that, things may have changed a little since I was in the field!!!

Good luck with your decision.

Thats really helpful thank youuuuu :D Do you have to start with small pets then move into horses or can you do whatever??

I think it is really difficult to decide in your teens what you are going to be doing with the rest of your life, so I am not surprised you are struggling tbh:)

I always wanted to work with horses but ended up doing the academic qualifications/proper job thing, while working part-time (and mostly unpaid) in some of the best yards across the disciplines - it was extremely hard work fitting it all in (and no social life:() but I learnt a huge amount and showed myself, my parents and my employers that I really really wanted to do it. I've been working full time with horses now for nearly 20 years.

What I'm saying is that nothing is forever if you don't want it to be, but decide what you want to do right now (VN or event groom or whatever) and put your heart and soul into it.

Yea iv always wanted to work with horses to  atm i work part time at a RS and its awful, i hate it, it is thee most unpleasant place ever and tbh i really could not be bothered with this place anymore but the only reason i do it is to keep my horse!! I think in the future id like to be working as a VN and have my own little yard with some NICE liveries and some horses of my own to bring on and sell etc and maybe take some BHS exams and teach abit but i am thee most indecisive person ever and dont no what to be doing with myself now if that makes sense!!!

Just got informed that i didnt get the position as WP :( bit disapointed tbh, dont no why though as i wouldnt have chose me either like  aww well suppose thats made my mind up for mw now!!!
