My horse arrived just a few days ago and whenever i bring him in from the paddock he refuses to go in his stable, he will run off to the side and it takes me best of half an hour to finally get him in. It feels like i have tried everything and have run out of ideas. Does anyone have any advice to help me ? Anything would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Do you hang his haynet before you take him in?

How long is he stabled for?

Does he have enough space and bed to be comfortable?

Is he used to being stabled?

Could he have been neglected or mistreated in the past?

Yeah he has everything in his stable ready for him, he is stabled from about 5pm till 8:30am so he gets all day out. his has quite a large stable and alot of bedding lol. He is used to being stabled at night, but he doesnt show any signs of being neglected in the past. He might just be trying to see how much he can get away with but im just running out of ideas x

Have him on a long rope and walk into the stable ahead of him. Leave a bucket of food just inside the door for him to go for. Gradually move the bucket further and further into the stable, one step at a time. Dont put any pressure on his head, just stand and wait for him to go for the food. Make sure you are not blocking him from going forward. If he reverses out just start again, once he takes a mouthful, move the bucket forward.

Do this everyday, keep patient and he will get better. Hes just moved and is feeling worred and insecure
