Evenin' all!

As some you know, I have my RS's Mini 3 Day Event/Advanced Pony Week next week - I am so excited, but terrified!

Does anyone have any tips on turn-out/plaiting?

Bonnie Coblet does have a decent amount of mane, and Im wondering what kind of plaiting would suit her. I could plait her up normally, or maybe do a lattice thingy or a running plait. I'll try and plait her tail, if she doesnt boot me in the face! (Oh that makes her sound horrid! She really is quite lovely :o)

We're doing some SJ and the dressage. I have a short sleeved white shirt, matching navy-with-red-polka-dots tie and scrunchie, hairnet, and a reddish-and-navy velvet browband for Bonnie Coblet. I'll probably just wear a polo shirt or a t-shirt for the SJ, and the shirt and tie for the Stressage!

TIA HHO-ers, banana and coconut cake for all! :D

TG xx

P.S. Heres a pic of her in her fuzzy winter coat, to let you know the kind of mane length etc. PLEASE excuse my awful jumping face and terrible position! I am a LOT better now :o

I would either plait normally or do a running plait, but dont do one of those alwful lattice/gypsy plaits :p they look horrible!

For your hair, plait one big plait at the back of head, and roll that into a (very!) low bun :)

They arent THAT bad are they?!

I think Id fudge up normal plaits, I can just about do a running plait!!

Heh, i do have a lot of hair to control :o How can i pin it down? I have hairnets etc but ive never used them!

A biiiig hairnet for yourself :) I used to plait my hair then roll it into a bun, then put my hairnet over my entire head dinner lady style!

I would do a running plait in her mane! :)

And for grooming, first use a rubber curry comb, then briefly flick over with a dandy brush, and then attack and work up a sweat with a body brush :p Then to finish off, polish with a damp stable rubber! Make sure to scrub the hooves well and wash the dock, eyes, nose mouth etc thoroughly because they always check those especially! Make sure you polish your boots :p And to tame manes and tails, damp with a sponge before plaiting! xx

When your putting your hair up, I just generally fumble with it until it resembles something like a bun - involves lots of wrapping around :p

Gypsy plaits can look great on the right horse, but usually on a gypsy horse :p

Ah, but how do I fasten the bun down?!

Ill try one out on her and see if it looks in any way decent

I just use a hair band the same colour as my own hair, then bung it all in a hairnet and jam my hat on top of the lot! It's a dead sexy look:p

To pin down a bun, plait your hair, and wrap it round once to make the beginning of the bun and put 2 pins in against your head, one near the beginning, one near the middle. Then make another twist and do the same, then with the end of the plait, simply pin against your head :) Make sure the pins and plait are tight!

Or do it like this, low down :) http://dance.about.com/od/getstarteddancing/ss/Ballerina_Bun_7.htm

I find the plaiting method easier because I have very very thick, curly, layered hair :p xx

Bit of an odd one but I find manes and tails look beautifully silky with mist of Aussie Leave-In Conditioner spritzed through the night before the big day. I'm sure you could use any leave in conditioner and it would do the same job though :)

If you don't have a stable rubber, a slightly damp tea towel will work just as well for last minute polishing

Hope you have a ball! :D

Oooh forgot about Aussie Luscious Long Leave in Conditioner! I second this, or unscented furniture polish! Though it does make the mane and tail quite slippery so you need to really really secure the plaits well! :) xx

Furniture polish?!

Oh does that meean you've been shopping again? I've heard Avon skin so soft dry oil is great for tails and manes to make them shiney, and on another not it's a great fly repellant :D

This is true! :)
