Hi I have just started working at a yard where the owner would like us to show her 3 yr old welsh pony in hand only at local level however she had to have her eye removed which is a shame as she is stunning. Will her only having one eye affect a judges opinion? Many thanks x

It may have an affect in the show ring, some judges will naturally feel that for showing the pony should be unblemished but for the benefit of the pony going out to some shows would probably be a good education for the future. It is likely to be less of an issue once it is broken and showing under saddle when there is more to take into account. I would take it and see how it does, if the pony is good enough it should still have a chance of doing well locally.

My mare has one eye, and has done well at local level. Granted she's a bit older than 3, she's 15.
Try it and see, there have been some top horses with only one eye, including in the show ring.
