Hi All,

My pony has EMS, and was wondering if anyone knows of any supplements/treatments to help her. She is mid 20's native breed, and has had laminitis too. She is exercised everyday and fed very little..i was wondering if anyone else has had experience with this disease and knows of a supplement to help her? Thanks!!

the only thing i feed mine is half a teaspoon of magnesium in her feed once a day. i get it off ebay.

she has hayledge (we make our own and no fertiliser and we make it late so fire gone out of it) and she has saracen shape up.

fingers crossed since she came home off loan in june because of this she hasnt had any set backs and was out full time, ridden and healthy within 5 weeks. she hasnt wanted to go out in the icy weather but when she does we pad her front feet out with cotton wool (fronts are shod) and wrap them in vetwrap so she doesnt get any concussion.

is yours on metformin tablets?

hi emma ok thanks for this. no she isnt on the tablets, can i get those from a vet? What do they do to help? mine is also on haylage (no hay about) but is not shod, and although abit short in front sometimes generally is sound all the time.

It is really hard to know what to do as there doesn't seem to be much information on what to feed to help her. many thanks for your help!

pony has now been prescribed metformin tabs, she has got lami atm and is not reponding with just the pergolide.. who else's horses ar on this, and do u make any other dietary changes, how quickly after giving the metformin should i see a result?

hi we have a pony with ems (ir) he is on metformin and his insulin levels are now normal, he is not overweirght and is ridden or lunged every day. However even after only two hours out with a grazing muzzle he gets a pulse in both front feet. We are now at our wits end as to what to do. waiting for the vet to come back with some advice. We also have him on Magnessium and are going to try cinnamon and goats rue as soon as it arrives. No life for a pony stabled all the time...
