I want to start doing some x country clinics. What happens and how do they work. Does the instructor assist one person at a time or do you all try and go around together in a group. Really I have no idea what to expect. Can you give me a rough idea please. My horse hasnt done x country before so I am a little anxious

In my experiences you go round as a group jumping fences one at a time and get instruction as you go although they will often involve other members of the group in the discussion etc as it helps learning, they are a very good way to learn as it helps you gain confidence and often someone else makes the same mistakes as you and it helps to see them from a 3rd person's point of view imo.

Usually do it in groups of around 4-6 and you go around a cross country schooling venue for 1.5-2 hours. Where abouts are you based. Berwick Farm (Stanford Rivers) has a few clinics lined up which could be good for you if you are North/East London way. I think you might be better if you are totally new to it booking your own instructor and taking him/her with you and hiring the course so you have one on one. Usually £20 to hire the cross country and then your instructor fee on top but at least you won't have lots of standing around.

Thanks for your advise. My trainer has a large x country course at his yard in Bucks. Think I might have a few private lessons with him first. We visit him once a week anyway. I am in West London - Do you know any good courses in my neck of the woods !!!
