Just about to do first dressage test very shortly so today been and bought ready tied stock and tie pin but how on earth do you get it to look right??? Got piece that threads though hole in neck piece and then ties underneath with two pieces of string, then I'm left with two long tie bits that I can't seem to do anything with, please help if you can, saddlery I bought it from didnt have clue either how to get it to look right. I Need a dummy's guide as to how to do it correctly. Many thanks!!!

Hi pollytwinks,

Without seeing it, the best advice I can offer would be to try tying the two long sections in a simple right-over-left knot pulling the ends horizontally, then same again but pulling the ends vertically, then fold the upwards-pointing one down in front of the knot so it covers the knot and lies on top of the downwards-pointing one, and widening the upper section immediately close to where it emerges from the upper part of the knot before securing both layers to your shirt section with a pin placed horizontally just below the knot.... phew, hope that makes sense?

hopefully this might make it look more like a proper stock? Or maybe just buy a normal untied stock, as they are really easy to tie once you've had a couple of goes, lol!

Hope you have fun in your forth-coming dressage test...

I thought you just folded the long bits in at a 45 degree angle one on top of the other and stuck your tie pin on the bit they meet at?

It will never look like a proper stock though!
