Freddie has been diagnosed with fairly low grade (I think!) HD. He is swimming weekly (which he loves) at a local hydrotherapy centre and I massage him every night and do some physio with his bad leg - which he also loves!!

I spoke to one of the therapists about putting him on green lipped mussel extract but having now looked online to find a supplement there seem to be hundreds and I have no idea which one to get!!

So does anyone have any recommendations on good green lipped mussel supplements please?

Thanks all

I use Simply Supplements online, two for one offer currently. Human grade is stronger and often cheaper than canine specialist stuff. I give a 23kg springer with mild HD 2 tablets daily. I find it's the only thing that's made a difference to his mobility.

You could also give:
Turmeric
Chondroitin
Glucosamine
Apple cider vinegar
No-bute natural supplement
Mobile Bones from Pooch and Mutt
Rosehip supplement (or whole, dried or fresh in season)
Salmon oil or tinned sardines/pilchards. Avoid the tomato ones as an ingredient in tomatoes exacerbates arthritis.
Raw meaty bones are a natural source of chondroitin and glucosamine.

Have you been offered cartrophen injections?

If your dog has been diagnosed by a vet then I would seek their advise as to supplementation. If you have insurance you will be able to claim for the cost of this.....something like Synoquin.

Thanks both.

Cinnamontoast - he has tinned sardines in oil twice a week now and thanks for the tip on the tomato ones as I didn't know that. He is fed on Arden Grange which does contain chondroitin and glucosamine but I don't think it is enough of a quantity. Vet hasn't suggested injections as I don't think its that bad - she wanted us to focus on building up the muscles in his hip area hence the swimming, massage etc.

Gunnerdog - He was diagnosed by the vet but she hasn't mentioned supplements so I will ask her. He is insured and I am about to put in a claim so will ask her before I do that.

Thanks again - he isn't lame or anything but the vet was keen to stress that how he's managed now will have an impact in his later years so I'm keen to do everything I can to minimise the damage.
