Help required! Unruly rescue bites........

Glad it went well and sounds as if it is a decent trainer. The sonic blaster thing could be the pet corrector I mentioned, was it like a blast of air?

Well done for your efforts! It must be really good to hear that his behaviour is due to being beside himself with excitement and not nastiness! you have probably (in the nicest possible way!) completely blown his mind by offering him a home and such attention! I have absolutely no experience of ridgebacks so hope I am not offering contradictory thoughts but young staffys (and particularly) boys are not actually flesh and blood. They are secret machines with an everlasting source of ever ready batteries fuelling them. The younger boy staffy is a much calmer person when has been worn out!. I look forward to hearing more positive stories about Dex.

Well done sounds like you have a good trainer and are assured your dog is just over excited. Bet you cant wait to go to the next one.

Ive just got back from dog training via the pub:Dand am envious as paying £10 per hour wish I lived nearer you:D

Nope- he had one of those too... this was a thingamy when when you pressed a button emitted a sonic sound- we can not hear it- dogglies can.

Dex totally runs on duracell- can take him out all day- still comes home and is ready to go in 5 mins!!

The good news is that once he works out the walks will be regular and not weekly then he will settle down. I could not get my staffie boy out of the garden when I first got him because he was used to living in a flat. Now he knows he just has to ask (or look sadly in my direction) and he will be let out! ditto, walks were massively exciting, now they are expected as his god given right..

yeah he does settle when out walking- until he sees a person, kid, dog, horse, leaf LOL

Just need him a touch less reactive!!

Sounds like he hasn't been for many walks in his life so far, poor lad.

I would work hard on 'watch me', and also don't forget that you may need higher value rewards when you are out and about - sometimes people try to use boring old biscuits in exciting circumstances and you may as well try and tempt someone out of the pub with the promise of a soggy brussel sprout - ain't gonna happen!;) Those meaty snack, fridge raider type things, cut into very little bits, work wonders:)

He'll get there, it's early days for you both:)

My trainer will not allow boring treats, she says there is no point trying to get a dog to work in exciting circumstances like a class without a good incentive for them to do so:)

One of the people in the puppy class is working wonders with Asda value smoked salmon, his puppy will do just about anything for it, bless her:)

Fabulous, good to hear you are making some good progress and sounds like your trainer has a real insight to what Dex needs. It will get better - our GSD used to be very dog aggressive and through careful training and mental stimulation and seeking the help we needed, she is 10x better now. Keep at it!

Agreed with Spudlet - when we used to train the GSD pups at the club, we used to take low fat cooked sausages! They'd go bonkers for it :D
