Hi I have a typical TB high withers, narow chest everything slips backwards & has started to rub his shoulders. I thought about getting a shires fleec bib as have got one of these for one of the ponies & love it not so keen on the lycra ones but to be honest pennys are very tight, I have tried every rug I have for him & they all seem to rub.

Anyone any ideas that doesn't involve too much money & also ideas for getting the hair to grow back I normally put cornecresine (excuse spelling) on manes but it will be very messy on his shoulders.

My boy had the start of rug rub and I bought a bossy's bib... now it's all cleared up and looks fab! I would recommend them.

The only rugs that don't rub my TB are Horseware ones. They are expensive, but they'll last a lifetime if looked after and repaired when neccesary and i've found Horseware Rambo's to be worth their weight in gold.

a bib will help a little, but you really need to get him a rug that doesnt slip back. you need to find a rug that has a steep, short neck that sits ahead of his withers, that is warm but light (in weight, not fill) Rambos usually fit tbs quite well. good luck. his hair will grow back in the spring.

Regarding bibs, we have a lycra one, seems to do the job. Have you tried coconut oil to put on the places with hair loss, i remember using it years ago when rugs rubbed and seemed to grow back, whether it was because of this or not i couldn't tell you! May be worth googling it and giving that ago :)

For my thoroughbred, either full neck rugs worked, or Rambo rugs which are cut narrower but the half neck style. Rugs also rub much more if they are a bit big.

my colleague swears by weatherbeeta for narrow chested horses. I have a cobby type so no idea! At my old yard we used to put sudocreme on but the only thing to really stop it is to find a make that fits
