Hi All

I am *TRYING* to find a good saddler in Cornwall! I did a thread on this not so long ago and the majority of the people suggested from Plymouth/Devon way do not come down this far!!

So on the master saddlers website, there are 2 qualified master saddle fitters, one who only does leather saddles (no good) and then theres Michaela McNeil - also known as "West Country Saddlery" I think. Has anyone ever used her or had any experience? Any advice/help appreciated, you can PM if you prefer.

Also when I contacted Nathaniel Underwood they recommended Emma Oakley who I think trained with him, but she only sells his saddles....prices from £900 and for my cob I am not sure if this leather saddle lark is the way to go? HELP!

nathaniel is really good, but if you are not doing gp dressage or looking to go to the olympics i can not reccomend enough a bates capprilli air ( they do do normal flock too) .

They have changeable gullets to fit your horse, are extreemly comfy and made of lovely leather, i love the air flocking and so des my horse and you can pick one up from ebay around £500. i used mine on my arab for endurance this year and it was great and with the changeable gullet can be 'tweeked' much more often to fit your horse than perhaps a conventional saddle would be. and being leather they are smart and super soft!

But it all depends on the saddles those only 2 saddle fitters has doesnt it? Looks like Emma only does Nathaniel saddles which are quite steep and leather not sure thats the way to go with my flat backed cob eh? I already have a Thorowgood T6 for her - I am not necessarily looking for a new saddle just some adjustment, but if I did need a new saddle, I dont think it would be as expensive as a nathinel one. Thank you for your help though :)

Nathaniel saddles certainly can fit broad cobs...
Origins Grandee, on my wide, minimal wither cob.

That saddle is nice! But with a price range of £900-£1,200 + its a little steep for me at the moment :(

What about Jill at eclipse equestrian in Long rock?

Bridget may not be a master saddler but i know she can adjust and reflock saddles, i suppose you are a bit restricted if you don't want to pay for someone to travel to you eg nutwell etc and you don't want a new saddle, you may have to compromise.

It is not that I am not willing to pay for someone to travel at all, it is the fact that when I have contacted them they said they do not come this far down!

If she needed a new saddle I would get her one, but of course if her original saddle could be adjusted to fit perfectly I would of course do this first.

Where in Cornwall are you? I use Jodi Hooper from Okehampton (her details are on the Master Saddlers website), she is very good. I also have a cob and have just bought a Kent and Masters saddle with adjustable gullet and she is coming out to check the fit for me.
