I have a high withered TB who I am trying to fit jump saddle to, she has only been in work a small amount of time so needs to build more muscle. I have bought a Albion legend 5000 saddle for her which fits her and me PERECTLY... except that she has high withers and the saddle is sitting down way to low on them. I'm sure when she is muscled up more the saddle will sit better but in the meantime does anyone have any tips for raising the saddle up off the wither without making the saddle to tight on the shoulders?

Thanks people!

I have the same nightmare with my Warmblood, wintec do a very nice soft front riser pad for about £25 and I think this might be the solution to my issues

I have just bought one of the 'Italian gel front riser pads' from ebay, as I want to ride husband's high withered horse in my saddle. fantastic and squashy, non slip but fairly heavy. you can use it under or over a saddle cloth, they are very comfy and washable. I also saw them for sale at Keysoe but was too tight to buy one!:D

Thankyou for that
Did it raise the saddle up enough of the wither?

Does the saddle sit in correct balance from front to back, keeping the sweet spot on the seat level for you? Assess it unmounted and see how high the cantle looks relative to the pommel, then have someone assess it when you ride. If it is level but is too low on the withers then I suspect the tree is too flat and the rear panel too shallow. I think the 5000 is on a flat tree - you may well need something that slopes more sharply up - Albion have the high head dressage saddles as an example which means a higher pommel with the same width tree.

If the tree isn't massively too flat then you might just want to raise the whole saddle with a thick sheepskin. If you use a front riser to give extra clearance IF the saddle is currently in good balance you will tip it back.

I have the Albion 5000 legend on a tb tree dont no if yours is this model ? for my very high withered chap and just have it reflocked about every 8-10 months
