Help - Saddle for breaking.....

A lady down the yard i am at is selling a changable gullet saddle which is cut back to suit high withered horses and i was thinking of buying it for Goli ready for when he will be backed.
He is 2 1/2 now (3 in may)
He has never had a saddle (had a rollar a few times) but he let me put it on like a good boy. it seems to fit ok at the moment (will get a fitter out to check) but as i am not planning on backing him for 6/12months minimum do you think it is worth having it? also does it look very small to you guys??

Length wise it looks ok to me, it could just be the light shining on his coat, but to me it looks like his ribs are set on at quite a sharp angle....... have you felt to see where his last rib is? From what I can see, he looks like although he's a big horse, he's actually short backed for getting a saddle on?

I'd be inclined to fit it wide for him and use a prolite pad, as he's bound to start muscling up with work.

I think it looks ok size wise although obviously we can't see the fit at the front over the withers!
I backed my horse in an old, wide fitting synthetic saddle (he is a MW hunter type/overgrown cob!) and his saddle looks a bit like a pea on a drum because he is so round. He is also short backed so it was perfect for him.

I think it looks ok length wise i agrees with air78 about him looking quite short in the back and prob wouldn't want one much longer.

Plus as it has a changeable gullet you can change it as he chages shape, would recommend prolite or wool half numnah to stop any pinching as he is changing, just to avoid saddle issues in the future?
