Hello, the time has finally come i admit... Apache needs a new saddle...
Its just too damn narrow... it perches on his non-existent withers... though it doesnt cause him any pain.. it's bloody annoying!!! (Excuse the bad language).... It slips around the horse, to get it to stay in place while hes standing still he has to be cut in half.... the saddle slips all over the place, meaning that often when i go down hill on a hack that his ears end up in my lap.... and when we canter round the corners in the school it veers to one side :/ Part of the problem is the fact that the saddle is just wrong for his body shape.. hes built like a barrel, with no withers... hes just extremely wide, partly due to his breeding- hes a traditional cob...
PLEASE HELP ME!!!
AbbeyandApache.... :D

Contact Lavinia Mitchell of LM saddles.

She travels and has fitters throughout the country and there isn't a lot she doesn't know about saddle fitting.

Good luck.

Oh no, saddle issues are very depressing  Just how wide is your boy? I like the Ideal apex H&C saddles for the wide ones. I'd just watch out for treeless suggestions as although they can work really well often with complete barrels you can potentially get a lot of lateral slippage. I hope you get it sorted soon :D

Am having the same problem with my cob - so am getting a thorowgood cob saddle fitted tomorrow (hopefully) by a fitter - shes only 4 and will be changing shape so i expect the changeable gullet will come in handy :)

I have a Solution treeless on my round native. No slippage issues. And we're both very happy with it. He didn't like treed saddles full stop, regardless of how well they fitted!

If you want to stick with treed saddles, might be worth contacting sbloom on here. She fits Native Pony Saddles. They're designed with rolypoly types in mind.
