ok so i sold something to someone earlier this year in full working order i had the battery for it some while so i bought a new one tested the new battery worked etc and sent it to the new owner !!

After a few days they emailed to say it had stopped working Strange so i called the people i got it from and they sent out a new battery !! Perfect and all working

Then a week or so later they emailed to say it would only work on one setting - again strange but they had the rug for quite a while now but i felt bad and said i would arrange for the rug to be sent back and fixed even though we were out of the paypal agreement time and i actually could of washed my hands of it !!

Well the repairs came to £200 and i just cant afford it at the moment and the woman is saying i have stolen the item from her ??

I just dont know what to do??

So, as far as I understand it
- you took Item back from New Owner for repair that you were to arrange & pay for
- you sent Item for repair and the repair bill has come to 200pounds
- you can't afford 200pounds
- you haven't sent item back to New Owner yet

Assuming that the repairs are already completed you will have to pay the repairers somehow and get the item back to the new owner.

If the 200pounds is only an estimate then you can simply get the item back as is, tell the New Owner that you can't afford the repairs/it isn't worth it and see if they will accept a full refund.

I'm afraid no one is really to blame for this and I'm sure you'll be more careful next time.

Did you just say you would arrange it on behalf of the new owners or actually arrange and pay for repair. If you said you would just arrange it on their behalf I would be tempted to say to them to pay it through paypal and you will send the rug back once paid for, Or say as a jester of good will you will pay a percentage to it. If you said you would arrange and pay for it then I don't see you have any other option than to pay the bill yourself.
I don't have enough legalo knowledge to know what the new owners could actually do if you keep the rug.

I dont have the rug though its still in the repairers !! I wish i hadnt bothered to say i would get it fixed as to be honest it was out of the date i had to !!!

oh well i will learn by mistakes of being too nice

Hmmm I take it the repairs have been carried out though? I would just say to the new owners of it that you cannot afford to pay the repairs out right and will have to pay in installments to the repairs who actually still have your rug, hopefully they will just say they will pay or to forget it. Do you have it in writing somewhere that you would have it repaired? Did the owners send it back to you and you send it to repairer or did owners send it direct to a repairer?
