cant believe it, at least its 60-40 in favour of keeping the rotties!

i know everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but if you are going to say anything against rottweilers that will offend anyone please do not post.

i fear for rotties and their owners

Of course everyone is horrified when a child gets killed by a dog such as a rottie, but what they forget is that it is rarely the animal that is at fault & usually the owner for not training it properly. I know some horrible rotties that I won't go near - because they have never been trained & they will behave in a threatening manner. I know a lot more rotties that have been well trained and are some of the softest, loveliest dogs I've met. I have also met some small breeds like JRT's that are damn nasty because they have been allowed to behave like that.

I think it is so sad when a lovely breed like the rottie gets tarnished because some stupid people (who shouldn't be allowed animals anyway as they don't know how to responsibly train them) allow them to get out of hand & a tragic situation such as the death of this child occurs.

People are the problem, not animals and it tends to be the wrong kind of people that end up with the dogs most at risk to being able to attack people and do serious damage.

I've known some pretty nasty JRs too but I bet nobody would be baying for their blood when something goes wrong.

I can't be doing with these knee jerk reactions and if we're looking for something to focus on why don't we start with our own race before looking to go after the animal kingdom. Grrrrrrr

The Rottweiler that killed baby Archie-Lee Hirst was a ferocious beast which should never have been allowed near children, a neighbour said yesterday

See this is what makes me cross, media exaggeration, persuading people to say what teh press want to hear because it sells!!!!!! For example in one paper, in the same report, the dog was vicious but then it said she was a family pet who played with the kids.

It's never the dog's fault. The kids should have had adult supervision, not that of a minor!!

And I don't know many dogs who don't bark and growl when strangers appear in their house!

I wouldn't take any notice of the Mirror any way, they used text speak in an article!

What's there to save? The Government have already stated on an ITN News report that they have no intentions to ban the breed.

Even IF it had been as nasty as that quote sugests,it would still be the adult/pwners fault for letting it near children and unsupervised to boot

that whole article has made my blood boil, the babysitter was the hero i think not if she had been concentrating on the kids it would not have happened and if that dog meant to kill that child he would not have died later on!!!!!!!!!yes i feel sad that the child lost his life but it was through the hands of ignorance, why was a seven yr old holding the child alone anyway she could have dropped him. makes me sick to my stomach that a child and the dog have lost their lives because of incompetance.

also forgot to say while they are on about banning rotties wat about any other animal that could kill someone or better still all the murders and peodiphiles etc who get luxery treatment in prison!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!sorry for the rant not aimed at anyone on here at all.

I know it's still the owners fault, what I meant was it's not helping anyone by not being clear about EXACTLY what happened and that the media mess things up.

Apparently yes they did report the government had no intentions to ban the breed, it flashed up when I checked my Yahoo email account under their news section. I haven't heard any where that they are going to ban it either. Don't think this months Dog World paper mentions it either, it'd def. be on there, I'll check
