help schooling a green pony?

I am riding a green pony at the moment and she often stops. She can be forward going when she wants to be so I'm sure this is due to how green she is (as she's quite young). When she does this, it seems as though no amount of squeezing and nudging on does anything and she almost becomes blank to leg aids, not because she's lazy, she simply doesn't understand. Can anybody help?

If she is really green have you tried letting her stand for a minute & look at things & then ask her to move on again. I had a young Tb that did this & with her it was lack of confidence. Do some work on walk halt walk transitions so that she gets to understand your aids for walk on & use your voice as well as squeeze.

I had the same problem. And you tel them to go foward but they go backward...

When did you broke her? Is it the first time she does that or she started a week ago?

Because if it's all new, leave her the time to understand what is happening and don't force her to go one way because she will want to go the opposite one (fear) Go slow at the start... that the best thing to do.

Does she do this in the school or out on a hack?
If she is playing up in the school, i would go back a few steps and do some more long reining, so she is working forward with your voice, befoer trying again on board.
When you do ride again use your voice to tell her to walk on as well as your seat/legs, and back it up with a flick from a stick, behind your leg.

If she is doing this on a hack, do you ride with someone?
or could you? to give her a lead, if not someone on the ground maybe to give her some confidence.

Instead of asking her to go forward in the direction she is going, turn her and ask on the turn for her to go forwards. Then you can go back to the direction you were originally going in. She should pick it up quite quickly that squeezing means go Also make sure she is good on the ground and is responding to your voice aids, and use them!

You shouldn't be hacking if she won't move off the leg, as it is dangerous and may knock her confidence. If you do, take a walker to encourage her.
