My 7yr old mare has been schooling well and we had just got to the point where she would stay rounded through all transitions and different gaits (still took about 20 mins to achieve the roundness) but we got there in the end then had another 20 mins working correctly helping to build up topline which she lacks alot, She now works well and rounded nicely in walk but as soon as i ask for trot she tries to rush and holds her head fairly high, I use lots of half halts to slow her and try and be as soft in her mouth as i can but every time she comes out of a circle or gets to a corner she tries to rush again and doesnt want to know with her head. I keep coming back to a walk and gain the outline again doing serpentines, circles etc and get her settled then as soon as i ask for trot again she does the same. I dont know how to overcome this and cannot afford any lessons at the moment.
2 other quiet riders have tried to help me with her but they ride with longer reins and VERY low hands which i have always thought is wrong, She has had her teeth done a few weeks ago and her saddle was fine about a month ago. Im really upset about this as she was going so well and i feel i am never going to get there with her schooling at the moment, Any suggestions most welcome.
