Me and my horse have been having weekly lessons with a classical riding instructor who is brilliant! We are coming along nicely but my girl is quite green and I am quite novice when it comes to schooling so we have lots of hard work ahead of us.

My YO's daughter is a fabulous rider who competes her own horses to a very high level and has recently given up work to concentrate on horses. She is offering to school a select few horses on the yard and having spoken to her she is willing to take my girl on for a schooling session once a week.

My dilemma is - will someone else schooling her, confuse her or will it do her good to be ridden by someone more experienced? It also means she will be able to get more exercise during winter which is a plus.

I am just a bit concerned that my instructor is teaching us one way and the other rider may teach her a totally different way.....

Opinions please :D

Good lord yes! An experienced rider will greatly help your horse and you can then learn from the horse thus meaning that you will have the opportunity to progress far more quickly than bumbling along in a "blind leading the blind" kind of way. If the riding is correct then the horse will not be confused.

It should be fine as in general you should be communicating with each other and singing off the same hym sheet so to speak. You may find though she may go better for the girl than with you're instructor teaching if their methods are different. Is there any way you could ask the girl to instruct you? She would have a better idea of how your horse goes as well.

At the moment my instructor is riding for the first half of my lesson and I ride for the second half so that my instructor can teach her then I get on and she can teach me. It's working well so far and as we progress my instructor will only ride every other time or when we do something new.

Initially I thought this girl riding was a fab idea too but someone put doubts in my mind so thought I would come here for some more opinions!

I suppose there is no harm in trying it out and if it has an adverse effect I can always stop the girl riding her.

I have seen her work with one of the other horses on the yard and the results were fab.

I have told the girl the exercises we are working on in my lessons so she can continue similar training in her sessions.

I have said I am going to have a think about it and get back to her but I have to admit I am more inclined to think its a good idea...
