HELP! Schooling whip and jumping whip lengths

Hi,

In September I am headed to Hartpury College to do an equine course. Among my list of equipment are two whips:

Schooling whip (maximum length 30")
Jumping whip

So I thought that would mean a dressage whip and a jumping whip. However, as I looked around, most dressage whips are 90cm or even 110cm. The 30 inch limit imposed equals 76.1cm, which is way below that. In fact, most "jumping whips" appear to be around 65cm long, which is not much below the schooling whip restriction.
Does this mean I should get a 65cm whip as a "schooling whip", which in my mind is jumping length, and a short jumping bat for the "jumping whip"?

I usually attribute a shorter whip to jumping and a long dressage whip to flatwork, but I am now really confused! What do you think? Part of me thinks they meant to put the "(maximum length 30)" after the jumping whip rather than the schooling whip on the list.. Sorry if this doesn't make much sense!
 
Email them and double check? Tbh, I'd probably take a whippy jumping whip (one of the longer types), a bat type crop and a proper schooling whip. Worst they can do is say you've spent £10 on a whip you won't use...

Blimey that's a bit short! How are you meant to reach your horses HQ with a whip that short? I wonder if they meant 36" (90cm). As above, can you email/phone and ask?
 
Hiya, I'm having the same problem this year as they haven't seemed to change it and I was wondering if you ever got a response from Hartpury? x
 
Hi! I've been there for a year now and can confirm you just need a normal length jumping whip and a schooling whip (mine is 100cm). Don't worry about sizes too much, they won't be measuring your whip at any point! Just ensure you have a shorter whip and a longer one and you'll be fine. Good luck with your first year!
