Help scientific research on the human-horse relationship and horse welfare

Done. If it's not too much trouble, could you let us know when the results are released/article published?

As an aside, I've been reading through your work on reindeers and elephants and it's so interesting. Hope this doesn't come off as patronising but keep up the good work! We need more people doing this sort of research.
Hi, I'll make sure to make a post on the forum once the results are published. The research process and publication process are quite slow so it my take more than a year but I
ll do it. Thank you for your kind words regarding my work. all the best. Oceane

Thanks for the study participation opportunity. The results gathered from it will be interesting to learn about.

I’m just going through it and have noticed an editorial issue/mistake. Im not sure if its due to the questions being translated from another language into english, but there’s one question that doesn’t make full sense.
Its the set of questions within question 11:

“I'm not interested in abstract or theoretical things.
I like ideas that cannot be put into practice a waste of time”

Should that be “i think ideas that cannot be put into practice a waste of time”?

I obviously can make sense of the mistake, and likely others do too, but initially my brain got confused what was being asked, and maybe others dont make sense of it and likely answer arbitrarily just to get through it, so thought i’d mention it, if you might want to edit it.
It‘s a key question about abstract thoughts and ideas, which can often precipitate innovation, so think you’d want it understood as intended and answered accurately.
Thank you for noticing this issue ! It is now corrected. all the best .

Working with Equitation Science International (thinking of Lisa Ashton in particular in the UK) would be good, you may already be? I don't have a horse so can't help on this one, soryr.
Hi, I did contact them but did not hear from them so far. Thank you for your suggestion !

Just a heads up it’s Probably not suitable for people with learning disability and autism as it’s described emotions and personally you could get very different answers from people as the brain works differently with these conditions . It’s could mess up the the study results. There is a few well know members have autism on this fourm.
Hi, Thank you for your comment, This is clearly something we have to keep in mind when running the analyses. Since it's an anonymous survey we are limited with the kind of personal questions we are allowed to ask as some people could be identify by crossing all of the answers. Plus, the survey is already very long so we ad to make some sacrifices. But you are totally right and this should be mentioned when we discuss the results. Thank you for your insight and your participation. All the best.

Re question: how often do you ride your horse? I now have an old an unridden horse, so put Never but during the last 20 years she was ridden consistently, no space to state this.

Hi, This is fine are we are mostly interested in looking at the horse behaviour description in accordance to it's current environment and activity level. This kind of details may be mentioned at the end of the survey, there is an open box where the participant can mention anything that they think could be useful for us to know. Thank you for your help.

Done for my two. My 2nd horse is retired and I ticked that she’s not ridden, then later on it asks for what activities we do and there is no option for retired. The best I could do was groundwork / liberty because it forced me to tick something.

Thank you for your participation, If you do not train or ride your horse anymore, we can cross the answers with the questions on the work frequency if you selected "never" for groundwork and riding frequencies, we'll know that what you selected in the practiced activities is not happening often or not anymore. Thank you for mentioning this issue.

All the best.

Thank you to all of you who already participated in our study ! Thank you a lot as well for all you feedback that is extremely useful.

The survey is still online for a bit if you haven't had a chance to fill in the questions!

have a lovely day.

Done, always happy to support academic endeavour, would love to know what conclusions you draw. My horse moves through life like the queen she surely is, I, on the other hand am a hot mess :)

Thank you so much for your support.

I'll make a post here once the results are published (It will take some time as the scientific process is quite slow). If you are interested in my work you can have a look at my previous publications here : https://oceane-liehrmann.webador.fr/publications

Thanks again and all the best with your horse :)
