Hi

I wonder if any one can help me. I went and saw a lovely horse which I am going to be sharing over the winter.

I have decided that I am going to get rider insurance. I have been looking around and the BHS Gold membership seemed really good. Just wondered if any one had any experiences and what it is like. Any comments would be useful.

I have never shared a horse and any other tips would be useful.

Thanks in advance

I haven't used the BHS gold membership personally, but have heard good things about it from others.
Feel free to fire away about any questions you might have, 99% of the time someone can answer it!

BHS Gold membership is very good and cost-effective if you jsut need liability insurance. If you want personal injury insurance as well, Petplan do very good rider-only insurance which is designed for sharers.

Sharing is brilliant fun. I shared my Moose for 18 months, made really really good friends, and learned loads. Never be afraid to ask questions, always keep your share horse's tack nice and clean, and always turn up on your days. Thats about it for the rules of sharing.

Whats the horse like? What are you hoping to do with him/her? Tell us more !

She is a 15.3 grey Anglo arab throughbed. She is 7yrs old. Her owner is planning to event her next year. She has a fantastic jump and a real confidence giver. But unfortunately dressage lets her down. To help with her dressage I planned to do schooling to help her maintain suppleness and get her to maintian a more regular outline. I also going to get her about about to local dressage and low level showjumping as she can get tense at events but she is only a baby. So lots and lots of fun. And hopefully she will improve my SJ confidence as I lost it after several falls.

Quick question is personal injury insurance worthwhile?

I have BHS gold membership, I joined when I was sharing because I needed insurance. I've never had to claim but I would expect the service to be pretty good as the BHS wouldn't want bad publicity or to alienate members.

There are other benefits to membership too, including a free legal helpline.

Personal injury insurance really depends upon your circumstances. If you had an accident and it was your fault and you were injured how would it affect you financially? If you would loose out in a big way for example if you are self employed in a physical job it would be well worth it.

I share a horse but haven't got rider insurance. I am completely covered on the owners insurance, so i would check with them to see what you would be covered for, before you go and get your own rider insurance.
