My mare keeps having mild colic attacks. She had a bad colic in April and since then she has had a few small gassy tummy upsets. last one two nights ago when she escaped from her paddock and gorged on lush grass.
Does anyone know of a supplement that is good for mild colic prone horses?

Having just lost a pony to an horrific comic attack your first port of call must be your vet. It's not worth the risk of messing around without taking some serious advice about routine and management first. Also has she had her teeth checked recently. Our little fine had a mild attack because of a tooth problem which meant he wasn't chewing properly.

Please take some serious vet advice as I wouldn't wish another horse to go through the pain that our little man suffered

Sounds just like my girl and she had us really worried for a while.... is yours fairly restricted usually as this can be the problem. Not used to grass and then gets out, gorges and colics? This is what mine did.

I did the best thing ever by moving her on to a well covered (but not long) paddock and not on a bare (ish) paddock as I found she was unhappy and often escaped. In order to keep her weight down we had to do more exercise but since this change she hasn't colicked once even though she has escaped and gorged, she was more used to the grass so it wasn;t a shock.

I also give her fennel powder in her feed to help with gassiness/bloating.

Her teeth were done not long ago and get done every six months. she's in a routine as all yard get turned out and taken in same time every day and she is worked every day. Vet is aware of her having colic issues as she had surgery (unrelated problem) in june so her routine and care was discussed in full then. I also have a fantastic YM who's bedroom is literally through the wall from her stable! but thank you for your warning and concern, believe me if it was more than a tummy grumble for a short time the vet would be there! x

She is restricted as she would live life doing a fine impression of a ball if she could!!! but she has always been restricted. she is also worked for at least an hour most days, cant up that work or intensity too fast as she had PSD surgery in June and her fitness has to be given careful time to build up.x

I shall try spearmint/fennel thank you.x

Ulcers have crossed my mind as she can get highly strung and moody to tack, but as she is such a good do'er other typical signs of ulcers are not showing in her.x
thank you all for replies x

Muzzle has been tried and the old bag ended up almost ripping her ear off with her hind foot trying to get it off....she isn't an easy horse!! lol.

No, on a positive note she isnt a windsucker/ crib biter.. so she has one plus point!
