Hi All,

We have an 18 month old miniature s/h chocolate Dachshund (we also have a 4 yr old Long haired GSD) but the problem is the Dachs! I have had them nearly all my life a know they are notorious for leaving the ODD puddle most the way through their lives, BUT this one does number 1 AND 2 nearly EVERY night, they sleep in the kitchen at night with a baby gate!

He's not castrated, could this be the issue?

Whats the best way to deter this??

arghhhhhhh HELP!:(

Is he definitely "going" in the garden at night before you go to bed? I ask because one of mine did this at first (18month old rescue when I got her) and when I started watching her from the window I realised that she wasn't actually doing anything. I solved the issue by popping the lead on her last thing at night and taking her out for a quick spin around the block and she would always relieve herself.
Obviously I didn't really want to be doing a 10pm stroll long term but it was only probably a week or so before she associated the lead with what was occurring and so I could pop the lead on her and she would go but in our garden.
Now she needs no help at all and leads the charge to the garden as soon as I put my book down or turn the tv off :-)

I guess the only other issue is whether or not they're having to go slightly too long between night and first morning let out? My 4 are all very good but I couldn't really be late in the morning so they go out at around 10pm at night and then again at about 06.15am. If I was any later than this I'm quite confident the older dogs could hold themselves for another 30min or so but I would say the younger ones would perhaps struggle.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply!

Yes I should have mentioned they get walked for an hour every afternoon, let out regularly and then are marched out until they do their business at 10-10:30pm and then we are up again by 6 am! I know the GSD could wait longer but wouldnt leave the dachs any later.
