I graduated in May last year with a 1st in Equine Science and although I loved the degree I do wish I had studied something else as the job opportunities are pretty much nil!

I am now struggling with jobs/careers...would love to do a physio masters but can not afford it :(

I worked in a stable yard after uni for a while but I was just getting further into debt and obviously not going anywhere with regards to a career. I now have a different job in an office but I do not really see where I can go from here either, but I am less in debt :)

Basically I want to hear from all of you who enjoy your job (horsey or non-horsey), what do you do? inspire me! I need some ideas for a career, at the moment I have literally no idea what to do!

Any help/advice greatly appreciated.

Hi Cocoa, I also have an equine degree although mine is a BA and more business based. Since I have graduated I have worked as an account manager for an equestrian wholesaler, as a claims advisor for a horse and rider insurance company and for an on-line equestrian retail company.

There are horse related office jobs out there that pay just as well as the same position within a company in a different industry. I got my second job by sending a spec letter & CV out. If you'd like to work in the equine industry then the BETA website is a good start. You can find all their members in your area and send them letters/cvs.

Of course this is assuming that you want to work in an office rather than hands-on with horses. I originally wanted to be a horse physio. This way I work in a nice, clean well paid office job but am still interested in the products we sell and am dealing with horsey people but I also earn enough to have a horse as a hobby.

I have a equine science degree and work for the ambulance service....as do 2 other people from my course!!!

Hi, I have a degree (BA) and am a PA but in a very flexible and animal friendly organisation, who understand that my horse is as important to me as my colleague's children are to her.
The job is pretty well paid and the hours are very sane, which means I can mostly juggle horse and work (and OH and cats) reasonably easily.
I originally wanted to work with horses, but there's something about doing what you love day in and day out as a job that slowly makes you stop loving it as much.
My horse is my antidote to work and vice versa.

Thanks Tapir, I will definately do the BETA and sending out cv's thing, although I have looked before and there isn't a lot in my area, mostly tack shops.

Flicker, I am a PA at the moment and I don't hate it I just get very bored very quicky, perhaps if I was in a more Equestrian based company I would be happier.

Thanks guys, I guess I just need to be patient and things will come along eventually!

I got a 1st in equine science too (and then totally regretted it!). I have worked for a feed company, in a laboratory and now I work in marketing for a veterinary company (and am on HHO in my lunch hour). Current job is interesting, stimulating, challanging and allows me to live in the area I want and have a horse. I got my job via a professional recruitment agency (not the ones that supply temp staff), it was quite a chance thing as I was desperate and submitted my CV to almost every recruitment company (temp, perm, the lot) in Yorkshire, I never thought an agency would get me a permenant full time job with prospects but it worked!
