I have a 15.2hh thoroughbred mare who is currently stabled and goes out for a few hours during the day. The issue is she is veeeeery messy in the stable! Its similar to that of a horse who box walks, but she doesnt do it in a stereotypical way (if that makes sense) she just walks around ALOT at night. This is fine, until it comes to the mucking out in the morning, as the whole stable floor (and i mean that literally) is covered! I currently have rubber matting down and put a thin bank like bit of aubiose bedding at one side of the stable. I would love for her to be on a full bed, but i dread to think of the cost of having to take it all out and put new bedding in everyday! I was wondering if anyone had any ideas/advice/tips. Thanks!

My horse box walked. He had a full bed and I just removed the wet. He has shavings a little more often than the others but nothing drastic. I skipped him out whenever I was on the yard too as that helped quite a bit :)

Something like Cushionbed might help, its small woodchips which are quite heavy and when I had my pony on box rest he walked on top of the bedding rather than shuffling through like they do with shavings.

The other thing we have done with ours is make a square pen outside the stable on wood mulch so that he can come in and out of the stable. He stands much better outside and I only close the door when the weather is extreme. Has saved me lots in bedding and much happier pony.

Thanks, Yeah i think i may try and see how much its costing me etc. Just not sure about giving a deep bed and whether that would help

That sounds really nice! I wish i had the facilities where i stable my horse to do that, unfortunately she is stabled in internal stables in a big barn. I will look into that type of bedding as that may help solve the problem. Did you make the bed deep or just a normal amount? Thankyou!

Yes I made it pretty deep, about 8-10 inches. Its not too expensive if you get a palette at a time, its made by Giffords ( not sure of spelling but something like that! ).
