Totally no ones fault - the dog has a Labrador brain and eats anything. Single layer choc sponge, covered in choc ganache... Eaten about 2 slices worth. It's currently 10:40 in NZ so should we go to vets or just encourage him to drink and observe over night ? I'm not the owner, just living with the owner.

Do you have any cod liver oil, I mean tablespoons full, not capsules?
check out wilkipedia:
"A typical 20 kg (44 lb) dog will normally experience intestinal distress after eating less than 240 g (8.5 oz) of dark chocolate, but won't necessarily experience bradycardia or tachyarrhythmia unless it eats at least 0.5 kg (1.1 lb) of milk chocolate. According to the Merck Veterinary Manual, baker's chocolate of approximately 1.3 g/kg (0.02 oz/lb) of a dog's body weight is sufficient to cause symptoms of toxicity.[citation needed] For example, a typical 25-gram (0.88 oz) baker's chocolate bar would be enough to produce symptoms in a 20-kilogram (44 lb) dog. Large breeds (> 100 pounds / 45 kilograms) can safely consume chocolate in limited quantities, but care must still be taken, as they can safely eat only about a quarter the amount a human can, and should not be intentionally fed it...."
Also feed fish, no meat, to settle tummy and gut, excludes goldfish!
I am no vet, but I would trickle feed rather than normal big dinner.

That thankfully does not sound like dangerous dose of dark chocolate(cocoa levels are what matters as higher cocoa content means higher theobromine)..
I'm guessing max one ounce of dark chocolate in the 2 slices? So he should be ok though there is potential for vomiting and Diarrhoea tomorrow as it goes through the system.

Id be either getting him to vomit asap at home...washing soda flakes can do the job quite well sometimes mustard will work.... or going to the vet to get an injection to induce vomiting to be on the safe side though as its a dog your minding not your own dog ....

Our lab once stole about half of a large chocolate and (strong) whisky cake! She was fine and suffered no ill-effects (other than getting a rather stern telling off!) She'd manage to steal anything though no matter how much you thought you'd put it well out of her reach/shut it safely away.

If it was a small amount then you can give activated charcoal (NOT NORMAL CHARCOAL). it helps to soak up the toxic substances in the system and is eliminated through faeces.

If you can't get to the vets for an injection then I have heard soda flakes for washing machines can work.
