I'm posting this on behalf of a friend as we are seeking an explanation for her horses strange symptoms!

Horse is 7 yo KWPN last year he had a bad kick to his hock which resulted in him having a bone chip removed, this was a resounding success and he was brought slowly back into work.

He was progressing very nicely (he is a dressage horse hopefully) and his work pattern has been very varied with jumping, cantering, hacking a bits of schooling.

He had gone to a little competition with very promising results until about 2/3 weeks ago he has become very nappy/unwilling to work.

This horse is an inwardly stressy type and has always been reluctant to mouth the bit but recently his mouth is dry, he doesnlt seem to sweat even under hard work, he also has had/has sarcoids which has been treated with liverpool cream, in the last couple of days he seems to have developed a rash on his face and bits of hair are falling out???

He has moved yards recently from a very stressful environment with very little grazing to a private yard with ample grazing, he has had his saddle checked, back checked, lameness workup by vet, bloods taken yesterday by vet. We have been told about a condition called equine anhidrosis, where the horse overheats as it cant sweat???? anyone any ideas???

If he was in a very stressful yard, even though he's now in a better yard, it will take a long time for him to settle. If he's anyway particularly stressy, then not unusual for a horse to take several months to adjust to new surroundings (no matter how nice they are!).

Sounds as if the vet will soon get to the bottom of any ailment that might be affecting him.

But has his teeth been checked - as not mentioned in your post?

Could be also worth trying a complementary therapy (if the vet agrees) something like Shiatsu or Bowen Therapy - they're "holistic" so can help with generally improving wellbeing.

Equiwinner
http://www.equiwinner.com/home.htm

I am just on the last patch of equiwinner for my headshaker and he has stopped headshaking. It is also used for bleeders and non sweaters and horses that tie up. I am not a salesperson just a horse owner looking for a cure for my horse. If it doesnt work they offer a 100% money back..

I have a horse with Anhidrosis he does not sweat even when hard hunted.
The day I realised it was a serious problem it was the end of the day I was following with the transport .
Three horses crossed the road and I ended the gate two where running sweat mine was dry twenty minutes later my oh rang a bit confused and said the horse must have broken down he had pulled himself up but did not look lame to him.
He led him to a road I picked them up .
He was so hot I could feel the heat radiating off him as I walked towards him that when I knew something was much more wrong than fattys so lazy he never get a sweat on.
I got on google then onto the vet who said the could not have Anhidrosis it not occur here. I pushed them on it and was told it was diagnosed by an adrenaline test which I pushed them to do.
There's nothing that can be done except manage it I am luckly as he's a hunter he would not be able to do a job in summer I keep him very clean and wash him regularily we keep in the shade in hot weather and hose through the day if very hot , luckily I live in Northumberland so this is not often .I keep him as slim as I can.
I tried the equiwinner patches and he did seen to have a partial response to them I think I will try them again in the winter.
There are various supplements used in America where the condition is common google search will find them .
Interesting my horse had nodular sarcoids and had a period of bad health when a virus affected his heart I hane always wondered if the stress of this triggered it.
Unwilling to work describes fatty perfectly if you try to work him hard in summer I would urge your friend to ask the vet to try an adrenaline test.
It's also called dry Coatidness in some countries I have to moisturise his elbows which get sore he also grows in very strangely after a clip especially on his ears which is the only part of him that is ever wet sometimes they run sweat.
All you can do for it is manage it as best you can I am lucky he's a hunter he could not do a job in summer.

Is it electrolytes? I can't see an ingredients list or analysis.
It re-balances the horse... using smart cell . you put a new patch on everyday for 10 days. google it and you will find lots. I thourght it was worth a try as they offer money back if it doesnt work. Im glad I tried.
It worked for my headshaker and apparently works for bleeders and non sweaters and horses that tie up.
