Help - I have a 3yr old mare that gets very stressed when left alone. She goes out with 2 other mares and recently they have been taken out of the field to be exercised together and my moose just gallops up and down the field until they are turned back out again. If she is in her stable and they leave the yard she gets really wound up in the stable - it takes her a long time to settle . . .

I was thinking about buying a mirror for the stable, but there are other horses in, so it's not as if she's in on her own.

I don't want to move yards, as my current yard is near my home and it works really well as my daughter plays with the yard owner's daughter, but I also don't want my youngster's legs to get knackered . . . any advice - will she eventually get used to being on her own or can I do something to help her ???

Many thanks . .

Bought a stable mirror for willsy as he's a right stresser on his own and even with others at times.

Well he was a bit suspicious for about five minutes and kept looking at me as if to say "Who's this then mum?" then he just planted himself next to it in a bit of a trance really!

Best 35 quid I ever spent and was well sceptical about it. He is sooo chilled, spends hours just gazing quietly at it and stood snoozing next to his 'friend' when he's not munching his hay. He also seems to have chilled in the field better too.

Before you do anything else, try one and get them to bring her in just while the others are out, I don't think that's an unreasonable request and see if it works.

I got it off Ebay and it was delivered next day complete with pre drilled holes and rounded corners, bostin!

Mirror im sure will be a good idea, i have a horse who was behaving like that, kicking the box going burko, to be honest i new he was ok, so he just had to deal with it, it took about 3 weeks and he is fine now, it is a very important lesson for them to learn, in time they will realise that their friend is coming back.

I would definately try a mirror (my mare loves her 'friend' so much, I brought one for the lorry too!!), and get them to bring her in if she is going to be out on her own, to stop her charging about (will save her legs and the grazing too). My mare will happily stay out on her own, if she is turned out alone, but if she is out with friends and they are brought in without her, she would get stressy too.
