Has anyone else had this: should I be worried? For the last 3-4 weeks my rising 5 mare has been breaking out in a sweat after we get back from exercise. She is pretty fit (ridden 6 out of 7 days for the last 10 weeks since I brought her back into work) and is generally cool by the time I get back to the stable. I always walk her for the last 20 minutes of a ride at least. About 10-15 minutes after putting her in her box she gradually comes out in a sweat on her shoulders, neck and inside her back legs. Yesterday, after a 2 hour hack with lots of trotting and some cantering, she came back almost dried off then I came back 2 hours later to feed her and found her neck and shoulders all sweated up and cold and clammy.
She seems pretty healthy otherwise and is not off her food or anything. Any ideas? I am just worried that she may be in pain or have something wrong with her, but she seems fine when ridden and shows no other signs of being in pain or colic etc. Maybe she is just going to be one of those horses that breaks out? I never noticed this last year, but I didn't do anything more than an hour or 90 mins a day then, and not fast.
I do not put a sweat rug on her when I get back as it has been really warm. Would that help or make it worse?
