I have a 6 year old 3/4 TB who is a bit stiff, tails swishes (has done ever since he was backed) and has bucked a few times when working correctly. I think he may be a bit sore as he did a fair bit of jumping (nothing major - not particularly big) as a 4 year old. I really want someone really good to sort his back, so we can totally rule out that as a cause. I am majorly skeptical about mictimoney/ 'back people' who just seem to massage the muscles etc but am a bit confused about who is the best type of person to go for???

I have seen a recommendation for Bruce Hewett and I think he looks good but he is based in north wales and i'm in Solihull area, does anyone know if he travels? Also Tim Bradford but he seems to be a A LOT more expensive than the going rate? I think my SJ instructor has used Tex Gamble but heard he is hard to get hold of and a bit controversial. Would I be better using a chiropractor than a mctimoney? I've used a couple of people before but although they were both lovely I wasn't convinced they made any real difference. The person I used last time was a human physio before retraining in mctimoney corley manipulation.

Please help! Am very confused!

Thanks, Lizzie

I won't use anyone other than a proper equine physiotherapist. IME the rest claim to be able to work magic but always want to see your horse again in 6 weeks rather than give you an exercise plan if there's a problem. I've been using the same physio for my horses for years - she assess the horse, sees it walked/trotted/on a circle then manipulates as needed. At the end of the session, she goes through with me what (if any) exercises or stretches I might need to do with the horse myself, and any particular types of work he needs. Last time she came, she recommended some raised pole work to really get him lifting his back. In all the years I've known her, she has only ever once needed to come back soon after a session. Last horse injured his back part way through a hunting season so was seen 2 or 3 times in the space of 6 weeks, along with a vet visit.

I won't use "back people" and I can't bear those chiropractors who come along claiming they can "just pop his pelvis back in" or just "put his vertebrae back in place". WTF?!

Quick reply - In your area I can recommend Gemma Key. She's friends with applecart13 (I think it is) on here too. She's a physiotherapist, and very good.
