Hi, my youngster (4 y.o) slipped on the road and managed to tear some muscles and tilt his pelvis.

My fab chiropractor came out and assessed all this, treated him and told me to hack him out gently in walk for two weeks. One week in and he look very unlevel from behind when walking. The chiropractor is on holiday till 14th June - when she's booked back in.

Do you think I should I should continue with the walk work or just turn him away for two weeks? I'm in a quandry... help!!

Given how young he is if he has torn muscles he needs time to recover. Walking would help to ease stiffnes but if he is unlevel he may just need turning away for a couple of weeks. It may be worth seeking a vets opinion as well. If it is torn muscles you should get some deep tissue work done on your horse rtaher than just chiro work. The pelvis may appear wonky because the muscles have shortened/lengthened (depending on what the damage is) pulling it into a different position. Good luck

To start with any other person than a Veterinary Surgeon cannot diagnose a problem - its the law! secondly you need to scan to prove its torn muscles, they cant just be felt by hand on manipulation. Your Chiropractor is on very dodgy ground diagnosing and treating an animal without first calling your Vet to ask permission and not then contacting the Vet to explain their findings and asking for a diagnosis from your Vet. If you need to claim on your insurance for this particular problem the Insurance Co has the right to refuse to pay out for this reason. I would certainly put this question you are asking to your Vet as the wrong kind of work can be detremental if the pelvis is tilted and usually there is some ligament damage to assist a tilted pelvis.

dressage babe is very correct your chiro should have obtained permission from your vet first and then told the vet of her findings. I would without a doubt stop riding until your vet has been out, it needs rest and if that lame etc on restricted turn out so you dont make matters worse. good luck.
