Took my girl to a school at the yard up the road this morning, we've been there quite a few times for a bit of schooling before with no major issues but we've had the summer off due to foot abscesses so its been a while.

She's within hearing distance of our yard so could hear the others shouting for her which obviously winds her up, but her field is just over the road from the other yards paddocks so sees most of their horses on a daily basis.

She was very excitable so I walked her round on foot to help her settle. She began bucking, rearing and striking out, apart from the odd buck when she's full of beans the rest is completely unlike her. Due to us being the only ones there I decided to call it a day and walked her back in case one of us got injured, wasn't happy about giving up but didn't feel it was very safe.

Im going to head back up after this weeks rain finishes, most likely to try lunging her, but does anyone have any tips on helping her to chill out a bit?

Baileys an choccies for all :)

Currently working back up to hacking alone as her schooling dropped back a lot due to the bad luck we've had with abscesses over the last few years, we have erm steering issues, she's fine following someone else but would rather her listen to me a bit more before we start trying going out by ourselves again

how did you get her there if you have transport I would be tempted to drive her round the area a bit before stopping at the school and doing some work. This is the way I would deal with it as I dont like taking the risk of riding to a local arena in case they get loose and run home with what could be disasterous circumstances

I don't have transport so as the school is only a couple of houses up the road I generally walk her up there on foot in case she naps, school her then ride her back
