Ok so I have been looking for a horse trailer for a while now and I have found the one I want at a very low price due to seller needing a quick sale however of course its not local and its over 5 hours’ drive from my house! Annoying but I’m prepared to travel for the right one especially as its so far under budget. So I contact the lady over email and we bounce emails back and forth she give me all the information I need, seems genuine and requests that I collect as soon as I can or she can deliver if easier for me – deliver well that’s fantastic! (It’s my lucky day!) So I gave her my address and phone number and she says she will check on the map and get back to me with day for delivery and we can arrange a time – all seems legit! However I’m starting to get my pessimistic head on – does she actually realise how far away I am! And getting the “its to good to be true vibes” she them emails me to say she is waiting for a quote from a delivery company (Fedex was mentioned?) and then she will get back to me! I assumed she would be bringing it herself i have never heard of anyone having a trailer "couriered"! She says she has requested a delivery where I can void it if I’m not happy with the trailer and return it to her but I will need to pay the delivery driver directly in cash if I want to except the trailer? I’m now worried either the trailer will just turn up and it will have cost like £300 pounds to have been delivered or that it might be a car full of men with guns that pulls up for the cash instead!!! (call me paranoid!) Help what should I do.

Sounds strange to me. I doubt if she could use Fedex or such like as their vehicles do not have tow bars. Hubby works for DPD and they wouldn't deliver anything like that and certainly wouldn't accept payment from anyone for dropping anything off. Could you meet her half way at some services or something? Take someone with you who knows what they are doing too! Good luck

HF just be careful as this does not sound right...............gut feeling tells me they will ask you to transfer at least half the monies on the day it is due to arrive ( there are loads of stories very similar - all scams!! )

Plus there are loads of cheap trailers about atm............surely there is one more local that you can check flooring etc

HF - trailer is only about £400 less than what I would expect to pay, if 8 to 10yrs then unless owner has put in a new floor it will be wooden, colour would indicate one of the older ones manufacturered - ask for the serial no. then check to confirm age and ownership. ( not sure what website I checked, but I am sure someone on here will know)

Weird how area says York on advert, she states not in London and trailer is in Carlisle!!

I have emailed the woman back calling the whole thing off i guess it’s better to be branded a time waster than end up losing my money - I do hope the trailer is genuine and it makes someone very happy I’m just too nervous to go any further with the deal! If anyone does go to look at it i would like to know how you get on! Does anyone know how you can find out if a trailer is stolen or not?

p.s - I also hope that car full of armed robbers does not turn up! I think they will be very disappointed with the loot if so unless chickens and kittens hold their value on the stolen items market!
